The skin is a porous barrier that keeps us contained in this body suit. In fact, those little holes allow the skin to breathe. This is part of the reason why they call our skin the third lung.

We all recognize the value of breathing clean air into two of our lungs and also want to become conscientious about what we apply to our absorbent, outer crust. Minimal is the key, since anything applied topically is absorbed readily. Whether it is a chemical perfume, a lab-created moisturizer or tattoo ink, it is all reaching the lymphatic system located just under the skin. Next week’s topic will be about lymph.

What we apply to the skin is directly absorbed into our blood and lymph. When we imagine these products seeping into our fluids, we develop a different view of an item’s value. It may smell good, but the liver is going to be working hard day in and day out to unload those toxic perfumes and sometime impossible-to-pronounce chemicals. We want clean lymphatic channels and clear bodily fluids for effortless movement in the blood stream.
