What is a Healing Crisis?

Often when I recognize someone going through a healing crisis I get very excited.  However the person having the experience is not quite sure why to celebrate; here’s why.

Our society is used to having an ailment, then seeking treatment to get rid of it immediately, usually by using medicine to cover it up.  We see this with fevers,  infections, allergies  and inflammation to name a few.  With the use of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, steroids, antihistamines  and analgesics we quickly move out of an uncomfortable situation; but at what cost?  We’re aware of the concern with the overuse of antibiotics and the damaging side-effects from using any medicine long-term, but this is mostly all we know to do.

Stimulating a healing crisis is quite the opposite.  When we move into a healing phase, we will almost always feel  a short burst of symptoms.  These may include a headache, light-headed, diarrhea, inflammation or even something as extreme as vomiting; which all occur for a short duration, usually 24 hours.  If we are healing on a deeper level, we may feel an old symptom from the past that has returned to finally be released for good and that is something to celebrate.  Letting the body process these symptoms may finally resolve them for good.’

There is no straight line of improving health, when get to the ral cause of the ailment.  We see improvement in symptoms, then a lull or return of a few symptoms;, them improvement again.  This is similar to what you see with weight loss or with any detoxification program. The best part is achieving the goal…naturally.
