Showering for Health

A practice that I learned about nearly 20 years ago, is something I do with nearly every shower I take. Although I love a hot shower, at the end of each one I turn the water as cold as I can stand it.

Apparently, this practice is known as a “Scottish Shower” and in Ian Flemming’s book it was described as something James Bond did each day. The benefits of this simple practice include increased circulation, immune function, and detoxification. For men looking to be more virile these showers raise testosterone, sperm count and sperm motility. This is great for skin and hair because the cold water will close the pores, help prevent skin from itching, loss of hair and the loss of minerals that comes with sweating. The best part is the invigorating feeling and increased energy.

This practice is something to ease into, especially if you have adrenal issues, heart disease or high blood pressure, as you don’t want to shock the body too much initially. Now that we’re in the warmer months, this is much easier to start doing, so have fun with it!
