Ear Infections and Ear Wax Remedies

This tip was inspired by an amazing dad who had me see his 3-year daughter with an ear complaint. Here a few things to consider when dealing with ear troubles.

Excessive ear wax is a symptom of an essential fatty acid deficiency. There are chewable and liquid supplements of fish oil available for children in several flavors. Adults should look for a good brand of EPA/DHA to consume with meals.

Ear infections are often caused by undiagnosed food sensitivities, especially dairy products. Avoiding dairy for a few weeks or months may resolve the problem. If you have a child with ear redness, soreness or other complaint, consider adding probiotics (good bacteria like acidophilus and bifidus) to support the immune system and crowd out the bad bacteria that are in the body.

Also, garlic has antibacterial and antiviral properties to help clear ear infections. To administer the garlic, get a small glass jar with a lid and fill it with olive oil and 1 crushed clove of garlic. Put 1-2 drops of the oil in the affected ear and have your child lay down on his/her side with the healthy ear against the pillow for about 15-minutes. Do this before bed and 2-3x the next day if needed. Save this infusion in case you need it in the future.
